Meet the Vendors: Fred’s Cafe.
If you’ve been on one of our corporate food tours recently than you’ll have met Freddie from Fred’s cafe.
Freddie has been a part of our food tours for a few years. First appearing behind the counter of The Butchers Quarter serving us amazing cold cuts and cheese. Then he ran the Butcher’s Quarter cafe in the arts and craft centre. Now he’s taken full ownership of the cafe and is putting his unique stamp on honest, no fuss, Northern cuisine.
We had a chat with him about the cafe and what makes it stand out from the rest.
What we’ve eaten
Actually it would probably be easier to say what we haven’t tried. An absolute favourite (as well as the Northern Rarebit) is the mushrooms on toast. Using locally grown mushrooms from Stockport funghi and garnishing with a delicious black garlic ketchup and chive oil.
Everything is made in house, from the sauces to the sausage rolls. All local ingredients supporting producers and farmers around Manchester.
The Manchester Arts and Craft centre can be found tucked away in an old fish market on Oak street in The Northern Quarter. Its a really cool community of local legends who make some of the most unique pieces of jewellery, art, craftwork and more. (The perfect place to shop for those hard to buy for people). Fred’s cafe has become the focal point of that community with shoppers, artists, and locals all popping in for a quick bite and a chat.
Keep you eyes peeled
Freddie has a lot of plans for this year including very exciting supper clubs and various collaborations with his friends and contacts in the industry. We’re luck in Manchester to have such a vibrant community of chefs collaborating and creating special event for us all. It’s worth adding the cafe to your socials to keep updated as you won’t want to miss these. @freds_mcr
